This poem is my contribution to the Daily Posts prompt for the day (Fence )and a poem I’ve had on the tip of my tongue for weeks. Hope you enjoy.
The fence
The fence locked me into your arms
and I cried.
The fence around you and I
makes me live.
Trapped
I
love.
Free
I
hate.
The fence was torn down
and I wept.
The fence around you and I
destroyed.
Free
I
hate.
Trapped
I had
loved.
Browned hands touch pale skin.
Leather gloves in the distant
rebuild a fence, post by post.
In an old farmhouse
two stand
face to face.
Free to love
but free they hate.
Trapped by hate
but trapped they love.
